Please read this Medical Disclaimer carefully before using MediConsult's telemedicine services. By using our platform, you acknowledge and accept the following:

1. Not a Substitute for In-Person Care

Telemedicine services provided through MediConsult are not a complete substitute for in-person medical examination and care. While our platform enables remote consultations with licensed healthcare providers, certain conditions require physical examination, diagnostic tests, or procedures that cannot be performed remotely.

2. Limitations of Telemedicine

You understand and acknowledge that:

  • No Physical Examination: Healthcare providers cannot perform physical examinations, which may limit their ability to diagnose certain conditions.
  • Technical Limitations: Video and audio quality may affect the consultation. Poor connectivity may lead to incomplete assessment.
  • Information Limitations: Diagnosis is based on information you provide. Incomplete or inaccurate information may affect medical advice.
  • Not Suitable for All Conditions: Some medical conditions require in-person evaluation and cannot be adequately assessed through telemedicine.
  • Delayed Diagnosis: Some conditions may not be immediately apparent through video consultation and may require follow-up care.

3. Conditions NOT Suitable for Telemedicine

The following conditions typically require in-person medical attention and are NOT appropriate for telemedicine consultation:

  • Chest pain or suspected heart attack
  • Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
  • Severe bleeding or injuries
  • Stroke symptoms (facial drooping, arm weakness, speech difficulty)
  • Severe abdominal pain
  • Loss of consciousness or fainting
  • Severe allergic reactions
  • High fever with altered consciousness
  • Suicidal thoughts or severe mental health crisis
  • Pregnancy complications with bleeding or severe pain
  • Severe burns or trauma
  • Poisoning or drug overdose

4. No Guarantees

MediConsult and its healthcare providers do not guarantee any specific outcomes from consultations. Medical diagnosis and treatment involve inherent uncertainties, and results may vary. The information and advice provided during consultations are based on the provider's professional judgment and the information available at the time.

5. Provider-Patient Relationship

A consultation on MediConsult establishes a healthcare provider-patient relationship for the purpose of that specific consultation. This relationship is limited to the services provided during the consultation and any follow-up care explicitly agreed upon.

6. Prescription Medications

Regarding prescriptions issued through our platform:

  • Prescriptions are issued at the sole discretion of the healthcare provider
  • Not all consultations will result in a prescription
  • Controlled substances have additional restrictions and may not be prescribed via telemedicine
  • You must follow prescription instructions exactly as provided
  • Report any adverse reactions to your healthcare provider immediately
  • Do not share prescribed medications with others

7. Health Information Disclaimer

Any health-related content, articles, or information provided on our platform, including our Health Assistant feature, is for informational purposes only and should not be considered medical advice. This content is not intended to replace professional medical diagnosis, treatment, or advice.

8. AI-Powered Features

Our platform may include AI-powered features such as symptom checkers and health assistants. Please understand:

  • AI features are for informational purposes only
  • AI cannot replace professional medical judgment
  • AI recommendations should not be used as the sole basis for medical decisions
  • Always verify AI suggestions with a qualified healthcare provider
  • AI has limitations and may not accurately assess all conditions

As a user of MediConsult, you are responsible for:

  • Following the treatment plan as prescribed
  • Seeking immediate in-person care when advised by your provider
  • Reporting any changes in your condition or adverse reactions
  • Attending follow-up appointments as recommended

11. Traditional Medicine Services

MediConsult may offer consultations with practitioners of traditional medicine systems (such as Siddha, Varma, Ayurveda). Please note:

  • Traditional medicine is complementary and should not replace conventional medical care for serious conditions
  • Inform all your healthcare providers about any traditional treatments you are using
  • Some traditional remedies may interact with conventional medications
  • Traditional medicine practitioners on our platform are licensed and verified

12. Geographic Restrictions

Telemedicine services are subject to regulatory restrictions that may vary by location. Healthcare providers can only provide services to patients in jurisdictions where they are licensed to practice. Some services may not be available in all areas.

13. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, MediConsult, its officers, directors, employees, and agents shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of our telemedicine services, including but not limited to damages for misdiagnosis, delayed diagnosis, or treatment complications.

14. Regulatory Compliance

MediConsult operates in compliance with the Telemedicine Practice Guidelines issued by the Board of Governors in supersession of the Medical Council of India, and other applicable healthcare regulations. Our healthcare providers are licensed professionals who adhere to professional standards and ethics.
